Veterinary echocardiography by voice: M-mode, LA/Ao and weight normalized dimensions for dogs in Word and PDF
In cats and dogs heart norms depend on weight, and in cats they are absolute as well. The package calculates fractional shortening, EF, LA to Ao ratio and weight normalized LVIDd and LVIDs for dogs; you dictate M-mode and valves.

How to pick this exam type

How to dictate
Heart rate, then M-mode in a row: IVSd, LVIDd, LVPWd, IVSs, LVIDs, LVPWs. Left atrium and aorta. Mitral valve and regurgitation, E and A, tricuspid valve and TR velocity, aortic and pulmonic valves with velocities, pericardium, rhythm.
What to watch
- LA/Ao, FS and EF are calculated. For dogs LVIDd and LVIDs normalized to weight by Cornell are calculated as well.
- Regurgitation in words: mild, moderate, severe or none.
- Valve velocities in m/s, E and A in cm/s.
- Right heart, pericardium and rhythm keep their defaults if not mentioned.

Frequently asked questions
Which formulas are used for normalized dimensions?
LVIDd in centimetres divided by weight to the power 0.294, LVIDs by weight to the power 0.315. These are the Cornell indices for dogs; they are not applied to cats.
Are ACVIM stages included?
The physician states the stage in the impression, the service does not determine it.
Can I skip the weight?
Yes, but the normalized dimensions for dogs stay empty.
Does it fit horses?
Choose species other. Reference values are not printed.
